چکیده

The massive deployment of cellular mobile radio networks claims attentions to their energy efficiency to favor both the eco-sustainability and the economic aspects. In this paper we study the impact of the power consumption in the design of mobile radio networks. We perform the analysis for GSM and LTE systems. The main aim is the analytical evaluation of the optimal cell radius accounting for both the network sustainability and radio coverage constraints. Overall power consumption is expressed as the sum of static and dynamic terms. The former is due to Base Stations switch on and signaling, the latter is function of the traffic in the cell. We also evaluate the beneficial effects of power control on energy consumption and we compare results with the non-power controlled case. Finally, we analyze the reduction in power consumption for LTE with respect to GSM.

Energy consumption of radio access networks in Finland

Energy consumption of radio access networks is related to the speed and volume of mobile data traffic. Finland aims to achieve two conflicting targets by 2015, the one of 100 Mbps user data rate provision to nearly all citizens and the other of the reduction of Information and Communications Technology industry carbon footprint. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the energy consumption fo...

Wireless sensor network design through genetic algorithm

In this paper, we study WSN design, as a multi-objective optimization problem using GA technique. We study the effects of GA parameters including population size, selection and crossover method and mutation probability on the design. Choosing suitable parameters is a trade-off between different network criteria and characteristics. Type of deployment, effect of network size, radio communication...

Dynamic Deployment of Software Defined Radio Components for Mobile Wireless Internet Applications

Software Defined Radio (SDR) is a key enabling technology for mobile wireless Internet. SDR represents unique opportunity to provide Internet connectivity to handheld devices over a limitless range of communication standards. For SDR systems to realize their full potential, they must be reconfigurable through the dynamic deployment of SDR components. However, the current SDR Forum standard, Sof...

Considerations for the Deployment of Communications for Commuter Railroad Positive Train Control Systems

The design of communications infrastructure, required to support mandated Positive Train Control systems, has not been given prominent attention with regard to and support of large-scale public rail systems in high density areas and heavily used rail corridors. Required Federal deployment timeframes have necessitated fast track strategies for all PTC systems one of which is communications techn...

A Comparison of Different Radio over Fibre Systemconcepts with Regard to Applicationsin Mobile Internet and Multimedia

The paper presents a comparison of different radio over fibre system concepts with regard to applications in broadband services transmission. Several concepts of radio over fibre systems have been studied around the world, and each of them seems to be very attractive because of low loss and extremely wide bandwidth necessary for mobile broadband services. Commercial deployment of the millimeter...
